12 Days / 11 Nights Arusha, Mt. Meru, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater + Charity

Not the type who goes on vacation to take it easy? Challenge yourself with a half-trek, half-walking safari to the summit of Tanzania’s 5th highest peak, Mt. Meru, then head out to the savanna to rough it with a 4 day camping safari to the National Park highlights.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY

Day 1
Pick up at Airport, Overnight in Arusha Safari Lodge
Arrange your flights so that you can arrive in Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha . Our One World representative will greet you upon arrival and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Those who arrive earlier in the day or prior to safari day will have the opportunity to add a cultural excursion such as a visit to a local coffee plantation or just enjoy a relaxing day.
Day 2

Depart Arusha for Momella gate (1500m). Walk through grassland and forest, lunch at Fig Tree, and arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) after 4 -6hrs.

Day 3
Climb out of mountain forest into moorland, past Elephant Ridge, to Saddle Hut (3, 570m). Optional afternoon ascent to Little Meru (3,820m) towatch the sunset.
Day 4
Depart around 2AM for the steep ascent to Rhino point (3,800m), continue along ridge to reach Cobra Point (4,350m) at sunrise, and summit at Socialist Peak (4,556m). Enjoy spectacular views of Ash cone in the crater and Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. Descend to Saddle Hut for lunch, then continue to Miriakamba for overnight. 10-12 hr trek.
Day 5

Finish your trek with an easy walk to Momella Gate, drive to Arusha Camp, Dinner and Overnight at Ilboru safari lodge

Day 6

Breakfast at Camp, AM Game Drive in Lake Manyara
Box Lunch in Park, Afternoon and sunset game drive in Manyara
Dinner and overnight at Migunga semi luxury tented camp

Day 7

After breakfast, you'll head out on a two- to three-hour ride to the plains of the Serengeti, home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, and other large cats that are likely to be spotted lazing in the shade. Lunch will be served en route, as you work your way through the savanna and acacia trees with an eye out for giraffes, elephants, antelope, buffalo, impalas, and the other numerous animals you will likely see along the way. Locally grown coffee and bottled water available at any time. Dinner and overnight at Ikoma semi luxury tented camp.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

Day 8
All Day Safaris in Serengeti (Optional Hot-Air Balloon Safari**)
Start your day with an optional hot air balloon safari or a morning game drive through the heart of the Serengeti. Bask in the glow of the African sunrise, as
you likely catch hippos and elephants taking a morning bath or prides of lions out for an early day meal. Enjoy lunch in the park before continuing onto an afternoon/sunset game drive and the chance to see big cats hunting, wildebeests on the move, and giraffes gracefully noshing, all amidst the peaceful, endless plain. Overnight at Ikoma semi luxury tented camp. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

**Hot-Air Balloon Safari can be added to your itinerary for an additional $550 per person.
Day 9
Safari through Great Rift Valley.
Awaken to a chorus of birds singing, the sun rising over the acacia trees and, if you’re lucky, the trumpet of nearby elephants. Keep a keen eye out for giraffes and bachelor elephants roaming the plains as you make your way back through the Serengeti across the Great Rift Valley. Overnight at a semi luxury safari Rhino lodge on the Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.
Day 10
Awake early for a sunrise safari to the infamous Ngorongoro Crater, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This volcanic caldera has its own ecosystem and is home to a vast array of wildlife, including one of the largest populations of lions on the planet. Be surrounded by hundreds of wildebeests, come within yards of zebras, ostrich, hyenas, buffalo, and, yes, even lions! All the while keeping a watchful eye out for the rare and elusive black rhino. After you've had your fill of the incredible fauna, your driver guide will take you back to your lodge in Arusha, to relax for the evening.
Day 11
After breakfast at the lodge depart for a visit to the local charity or cultural program your trip has supported. Spend time visiting the school, orphanage, community or health center, or remote village, which has been funded by a portion of your safari. After your visit, depart for the airport or relax for the afternoon in Arusha prior to your evening or late night transport to the airport for your return flight home.

The steep slopes of Meru offer a beautiful and exhilarating challenge for any reasonably fit hiker.Sometimes climbed as an acclimation trip for those focused on Mt. Kilimanjaro, a trek up Mt. Meru is also a destination in itself.
